Shipping & Receiving Clerk
Description
Summary
Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking; verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Package goods for shipment. Contact appropriate carriers to make arrangements to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
- File and follow up claims against freight handlers.
- Complete shipment documents for all appropriate outstanding orders.
- Handle warehouse and inventory management.
- Perform cycle counts.
- Manage the sale of obsolete stock online.
- Reconcile and examine incoming items to the packing list received and the company order records. Verify contents to agree with vendor packing list and company purchase order.
- Convey cargo by hand truck and forklift.
- Load, unload, or stack containers, materials or products.
- Notify and work with vendors for problems with damages, shortages, and incorrect orders.
- Maintains an accurate log sheet of daily moves, scanning inventory, and counting accurately.
- Provides additional backup support for shipping and receiving departments.
- Maintains cleanliness throughout the warehouse and carries out facilities maintenance duties as needed.
- Maintains and performs equipment checks daily, including a forklift safety inspection.

Qualification Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or highway.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail required.
- Prior experience with shipping irregular shaped or oversized packages required.
- Forklift Certification within 90 days of job entry date
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to sit approximately 10%, stand 50%, and walk 40% of work time. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This position will work in an outdoor environment about 70% of the time.
