Painter/Body Repair Technician – Forsyth

SUMMARY: The Painter – Body Repair Technician performs skilled work in the repair of damaged fire trucks and emergency vehicles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Operates and uses all body shop equipment properly and safely.
- Removes and refits damaged components and trim from vehicles.
- Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
- Strip, sands, masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated.
- Mixes and applies paint following manufacturers spec.
- Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags and unpainted areas.
- Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair.
- Keeps work area clean.
- Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
- Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.
- Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to create standard correspondence. Ability to effectively and concisely present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees. Ability to work from oral and written instructions. Proficient verbal communication skills, in English, are required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- 3+ years’ experience with body work and painting.
- Experience with repair of custom commercial vehicles preferred.
- PPG and or Sikkens training preferred.
(Comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum requirements.)
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions in written and oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variances in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
- Skill in using hand tools.
- Must have own paint and body hand tools.
- Ability to attend job training, as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
MEDIUM WORK: Lifting 75 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and balancing.
POSITION: Sitting 10%, standing 70% and walking 20%
WORK CONDITIONS: Spends approximately 40% of the time outdoors.
